First responders, paramedics or anyone who is not a paramedic, learn to perform the jaw thrust manoeuvre using both hands in the Basic Life Support course. On the one hand, this is a difficult technique that requires training to perform successfully, and yet it can put the patient’s cervical spine at risk if performed manually without pre-immobilisation. On the other hand, common cervical collars can compromise the patient’s airway by preventing both professional medical personnel from intubating and Basic Life Support first responders from manually performing a jaw thrust manoeuvre.
Lubo secures an open airway while immobilising the spine without damaging the patient’s neck. Lubo also allows for intubation if necessary, while maintaining cervical spine fixation.
