SAM® Pelvic Sling is the first and only force-controlled circumferential pelvic belt. Featuring an optimised one-piece design, it is scientifically proven to safely and effectively reduce and stabilise open pelvic fractures.

The patented SAM® AUTOSTOP buckle acts to prevent over or under compression of the SAM® Pelvic Sling. When the optimum compression force is reached, two prongs are activated by clicking to confirm correct application. The belt is fixed in place with the Velcro® system strap.

Trauma surgeons around the world agree on the role of the first critical ‘golden hour’ following severe trauma in stabilising pelvic fractures. The Automatic Pelvic Immobilisation Belt is the first and only power-controlled circular pelvic belt with scientifically proven efficacy and reliability in pelvic injuries. It should be applied in any suspected accident and the injured person should be immobilised.

Because of the potential for internal haemorrhage in this type of fracture, the use of a restraint product around the hip has been added to first aid protocols. Prior to the research that led to the creation of the Automated Pelvic Fixation Belt, there was no binding technique or safe product to be used in the field and in emergencies. Commercial bandages were scientifically incapable of providing the appropriate amount of circumferential compressive strength to the casualty.

In 2002, with the support of the US Navy, LHS Biomedical Laboratories, scientists determined the level of force required to collect a pelvic fracture and the most appropriate point of application. After 3 years of work, the ‘Automatic Buckle’ patented Sam Sling was produced. This belt buckle, as the name suggests, automatically stops the gripping force when the appropriate and safe circumferential force occurs. With proper use, this belt buckle allows the Sam Sling to be tightened more or less.
